Suicide Prevention Coalition of Colorado’s January Educational Session and Coalition Meeting

  • 11 Jan 2017
  • 9:30 AM - 11:30 AM
  • 13199 East Montview Blvd. Suite 220, Aurora, Colorado 80045

Join SPCC for our January Educational Session and Coalition Meeting, Wednesday, January 11, 9:30 a.m. - 11:30 a.m. at 13199 East Montview Blvd. Suite 220, Aurora, Colorado 80045.

Suicide prevention advocates from around the state are invited to meet Matt Vogl, Executive Director of the new National Behavioral Health Innovation Center (NBHIC), located in the Office of the Chancellor at the Anschutz campus of the University of Colorado. Participants in this Educational Session hosted by the Suicide Prevention Coalition of Colorado will have an opportunity learn about this new program aimed at expediting the dissemination of innovative mental health services and programs. The event will take place at 9:30-10:30 AM on January 11, 2017 followed by a coalition meeting to discuss important issues in suicide prevention in Colorado.

“The NBHIC will be a national focal point where ideas will be exchanged with an eye toward getting effective projects off the ground quickly,” Vogl said.  The center harness’s behavioral health assets that currently exist in Colorado and across the country to help implement innovative programs for schools, workplaces, courts, health care facilities, and anywhere else they’re needed.

Mental health issues cost the U.S. economy $210 billion a year (Journal of Clinical Psychiatry) and are one of the main drivers of health care expenses for employers. Improving integrated health care, facilitating mental health court programs (similar to drug courts), and training the next generation of professionals to be aware of mental health issues are just a few of the collaborative projects that NBHIC will advance.

Matt Vogl, MPH, is the Executive Director of the National Behavioral Health Innovation Center at the Anschutz Medical Campus. Matt was part of the original team that conceived and developed the NBHIC and is passionate about the opportunity to help support communities in building on their assets to help make Colorado the nation’s leader in implementing new innovative solutions to longstanding behavioral health challenges. Matt brings extensive leadership experience in public health, replication and evaluation of evidence-based programs and behavioral health prevention and early intervention to this role.

This event is free and open to the public.
